About us

Catalyst Equity serves as a trusted partner to entrepreneurs

We invest in by removing barriers to access, catalyzing capital, and nurturing growth, while delivering competitive financial returns to our investors and contributing to societal impact in the markets where we invest and beyond.

We contribute towards eradicating global poverty and spurring economic growth in African economies by investing in companies that have the ability to scale and will employ more people as they grow, allowing those people to have a higher quality of life through accelerated, market-driven economic development.

We also believe in gender equity and invest to close gender gaps in economic participation and leadership. Our commitment to gender equity is reflected in our investment strategy, which seeks to support and amplify the voices and contributions of women entrepreneurs and leaders across our portfolio companies.

Our focus

Catalyst Equity invests in three primary sectors: Agribusiness, Consumer Products and Services, and Enabling Technologies.

In addition, we invest in three primary markets: Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. We also consider opportunities in four secondary countries: Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Each company that we invest in needs to have meaningful operations or derive significant revenue from one of the primary or secondary countries that we target.

There are a few trends that are driving Africa's growth and development that inform our investment strategy: demographic shifts and the youth bulge, rural-urban migration, trends in consumer spending, agricultural capacity, import substitution, value-added post-harvest processing, Africa's rising soft power, scalable platforms, and leapfrogging opportunities.
